What is Asbestos? Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous material that has been a popular building material since the 1950s. It is used as an insulator, has good fire protection properties and protects against corrosion. Buildings constructed before the year 2000 are highly likely to contain asbestos. Asbestos is found in many products used in buildings, including ceiling tiles, pipe insulation, boilers and sprayed coatings. Asbestos is a hidden killer that can cause serious diseases such as Mesothelioma, Asbestosis, Asbestos-related lung cancer and Pleural thickening. Know the law! The duty to manage asbestos is stipulated in Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 and failure to comply with these obligations can result in prosecution under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Who is the Dutyholder? The dutyholder is the person or organisation that has clear responsibility for the maintenance or repair of non-domestic premises built up to and including the year 2000. Are you confident that you can meet these obligations? The team at RDS has years of experience and expertise in the field of asbestos management. We can guide you through your legal requirements and manage the entire process on your behalf, ensuring that you fully comply with all the relevant asbestos legislation, implement industry best practice and reduce health and safety and financial liabilities across your organisation, whatever its size. |
